Freestyle Cruising
NCL is particularly famous for its Freestyle Cruising concept. What is freestyle? If you ask NCL, it's the only  way to cruise! Freestyle Cruising is cruising without schedules and stress. It's all about flexibility and freedom. There are so many things to do on an NCL cruise, at just about all hours of the day, you really do feel free to do whatever you want to do.
Freestyle Dining
One of the main aspects of NCL's Freestyle Cruising concept is their dining setup. On all of NCL's ships there is an open-seating dining format, whereby you choose to dine wherever, whenever, and with whomever you want! Going along with this concept, NCL's ships offer a ton of fabulous optional specialty dining venues (some of which have a cover charge). Among them are a steakhouse, Asian restaurant (including sushi and teppanyaki options), Italian restaurant, and French restaurant.
Family Fun!
All of NCL's ships are great for families, while the newer ones take it to an ever higher level! Some of their ships (Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Epic) feature rock-climbing walls and full-sized bowling alleys, while all of NCL's ships feature great kids and teen programs (available for kids ages 2-17), swimming pools, multiple dining venues and much more!
Since 2010, NCL has had an exclusive partnership with Nickelodeon, one of the world's most popular entertainment brands for kids. The Nickelodeon at Sea program is currently available aboard Norwegian Jewel and the new Norwegian Epic, and features shows starring Nickelodeon characters (including SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer), new poolside activities and games, meet-and-greets with Nickelodeon stars (with character breakfasts and other fun appearances throughout the ship), as well as exciting trips ashore that have been designed specifically for families. Starting in February 2012,
Norwegian Gem will have Nickelodeon available on board. Additional NCL cruise ships are expected to feature this program in the future.
What's New for NCL?
Starting in October of 2014, Norwegian Cruise Line will be expanding its operations to the brand new Port of Houston. Norwegian Jewel will be sailing 7-Night Caribbean Gulf itineraries all year-round. Stops along the way include Cozumel (Mexico), Belize, and Honduras.
After much hype and media attention over the new ships, Norwegian Breakaway & Norwegian Getaway, NCL has decided to go ahead and 'green-light' the construction of one, possibly two, sister ship(s) for the Breakaway class. Code named project "Breakaway Plus," little details have emerged about the new ship. It is scheduled for delivery in October 2015, with a fourth Breakaway class ship possibly being delivered in spring 2017. These new ships, along with the current Breakaway class ships, are all being built at the renowned Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.
Following the successful launch of Norwegian Epic, NCL has announced Project Breakaway, an undertaking which will result in the construction of two new next generation Freestyle Cruising ships. The first of the two sister ships (Norwegian Breakaway) will debut in April 2013, while the other (Norwegian Getaway) will debut in April 2014. Each ship will be 144,017-tons, will have around 4,000 passenger berths, and will feature innovative accommodations including NCL's Studio staterooms (designed and priced for solo travelers), as well as a luxurious 42-suite complex at the top of each ship (named The Haven). Norwegian Breakaway will make New York City her home port, and will be initially doing 7-night Bermuda cruises.
During 2011, NCL refurbished several of their ships. Among them, Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Spirit and Norwegian Sun each received a variety of enhancements and renovations.
Also new for NCL is their exclusive partnership with Nickelodeon (as mentioned above). There will even be a few special Nickelodeon-themed cruises during the year, including special appearances by the network's live talent, show premieres and much more. Please contact us for additional details.
The 153,000-ton Norwegian Epic, which debuted in July of 2010, is Norwegian Cruise Line's largest and most innovative ship yet. That's saying a lot for such an innovative company! Among the exciting features that are available on board Norwegian Epic are an Aqua Park, a real ice bar, a circus that performs in a "big top," a casino that's over 13,000-square feet, contemporary New Wave staterooms with open living spaces (including Studio staterooms and spa accommodations) and POSH. Other exciting news about Norwegian Epic is that she features live performances by the very entertaining Blue Man Group. |
