Things to do in Baltimore

These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Baltimore, along with a brief description:

♦ The Inner Harbor
One of the most popular places do go for those taking a cruise from Baltimore is their beautiful, attraction-filled, Inner Harbor. Without a doubt, this area is one of Baltimore's most historic and well known landmarks. Within the Inner Harbor are great restaurants and shopping venues (many of which are located within Harborplace), famous Baltimore's Inner Harborretired military ships (including the civil-war era USS Constellation), the National Aquarium (one of the largest aquariums in the world) and museums (such as the Maryland Science Center). Sports fans should be happy to find out that the Inner Harbor is within walking distance of Oriole Park at Camden Yards (where the Baltimore Orioles play professional baseball) and M&T Bank Stadium (home of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens).

♦ Fort McHenry
Made a national park in 1925, this historic star-shaped fort is best known for its important role in the War of 1812, when it was able to help defend Baltimore against the British navy. During this attack, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write what would later become the national anthem of the United States, "The Star-Spangled Banner." It has become a tradition, after each redesign of the American Flag, for it to first fly at this venue prior to doing so anywhere else. History-buffs that are taking a cruise from Baltimore may enjoy visiting this historic landmark.

♦ Top of the World Observation Level
Located on the 27th floor of Baltimore's World Trade Center (in the Inner Harbor), this venue offers a spectacular 360-degree view of the surrounding area in Maryland. Also available are stationed binoculars, photo-map guides and audio-visual presentations about the history of Baltimore. It's a great place to enjoy the view of this amazing city right before or after your cruise from Baltimore.
