Cruises from Quebec City

If you are looking to go on a Canada & New England cruise, then cruising from Quebec City, or going on a cruise including Quebec City, is a great idea. Quebec City is located along the Saint Lawrence River, within the French-Canadian province Quebec. This city was founded back in 1608, and it has a fortified colonial core, Vieux-Québec and Place Royale. Quebec City is home to historic sites such as the grand and spacious Fairmont Château Frontenac Hotel and the Citadelle of Québec (an active military installation).

Most of the cruise lines that offer cruises from Quebec City (the capital of Quebec), only feature a couple of sailings each year. Cruises leaving from Quebec City are typically only available during September and October, so it is important to plan accordingly if you'd like to take one. There are many more cruises offered that conveniently visit Quebec City during the cruise. Holland America’s opulent ms Zuiderdam features one-way cruises from Quebec City to either New York, NY or Fort Lauderdale, FL. Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)’s Norwegian Gem does 7-night Canada & New England cruises, plus a few longer ones on Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Pearl.

Other cruises from Quebec City include a couple of 10-night and longer Canada & New England cruises aboard premium cruise line Princess Cruises' Caribbean Princess. Royal Caribbean also offers a selection of Canada & New England cruises including voyages onboard the feature-filled Vision of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas.

Things to do in Quebec City

These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Quebec City, along with a brief description:

♦ Old Quebec
Also known as Vieux Quebéc (in French) or "the city within the walls," this is the historic section of Quebec City (founded in 1608) that happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage site. Within this part of the city you can find many places of interest. For instance, Old Quebec is home to a beautiful park (Parc-de-l'Artillerie), La Citadel (see below for more details), as well as many restaurants, bars, outdoor cafes, street vendors and boutiques. While walking around Old Quebec you might even feel like you're in Europe, with its old stone buildings and winding streets. It would certainly be a shame to miss Old Quebecout on the opportunity to visit this area prior to a cruise from Quebec City.

♦ The Citadelle
This is a historic fortification located in Old Quebec (at the top of Cap Diamant). If you'd like to learn about the city's military history, this is a great place to start! Guided tours of this area are typically available. While there you should definitely take in the view of the beautiful surroundings that can be seen below. Those that are history lovers should definitely consider visiting this venue before their cruise from Quebec City.

♦ Museum of Civilization
This wonderful museum, also known as Musée de la civilisation (in French), was established in 1984 and is one of Quebec City's most popular tourist attractions. Home to a wonderful collection of antiques, a visit to this museum would be a great choice prior to a cruise from Quebec City.
