Cruise AttireHere is a list (in alphabetical order) of the dress code types of many cruise lines, as well as the definitions that the cruise line provides for each type. The dress codes listed below are subject to change and should be verified with the cruise line by guests directly. Use these as general guidelines so that you know what type of attire is expected by each cruise line:
AmaWaterways Dress CodeOn an AmaWaterways river cruise it is recommended to dress “Casually elegant” for the evening. There is one semi-formal evening during each AmaWaterways cruise. There is also a Captain's Farewell Dinner, during which you may want to pack something a little dressier – similar to how one would dress to dine at a 5-star restaurant.TOP American Cruise Lines Dress CodeCasual resort attire is recommended both on the ship and ashore. For dinner, men’s clothing might include a sport shirt and slacks, with sport coat or sweater. Women might find a sweater and slacks, or dress appropriate. American Cruise Lines also recommends you bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat, light rain wear, and a jacket for cool evenings.TOP Atlas Ocean Voyages Dress CodeAboard an Atlas Ocean Voyages’ expedition, we want you to be comfortable and recommend yacht-club casual attire. During the day, and depending on your destination and the weather, guests will be dressed in casual touring or resort attire. At night, you will find most guests dressed for casual relaxation in slacks, skirts or dresses, with sweaters or jackets optional.TOP Avalon Waterways Dress CodeDress aboard an Avalon Waterways cruise is casual. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for sightseeing. Examples of acceptable dinner attire are open-neck shirts, slacks, dresses. Coats and ties may be worn. The Captain's Welcome and Farewell Dinners are dressy, but not formal. The warm and humid climate of cruises on the Mekong leads to a recommendation against coats and ties.TOP Azamara Dress CodeIn keeping with a friendly yet sophisticated onboard environment, Azamara encourages guests to follow a “resort casual” dress code. Out of respect for others, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps, bathing suits, shorts, and torn/distressed jeans are not allowed in the dining room or specialty restaurants. When dining at Windows Café, guests must wear footwear and a cover-up or shirt. Formal evening wear is not expected nor required in restaurants. If you prefer to dress more formally, you are welcome to do so. Please note that tuxedo rentals are not available onboard.TOP Carnival Cruise Line Dress CodeThe evening cruise attire for Carnival cruises depends on the length of the cruise. There are two types of evening Carnival dress codes: Cruise Casual and Cruise Elegant. The Carnival dress code for children is the same as the one for adults. The Lido restaurants are an option for those that don't want to dress up (available all nights except the final night of the cruise). However, even in the Lido restaurants shirts and footwear must be worn at all times.♦ Daytime: Casual and Comfortable: Casual attire is the order of the day when the sun is up, which can include: Shorts, capris, khakis and jeans. T-shirts, polo shirts, blouses and tops; Summer dresses; Exercise and athletic gear, lightweight sweater, pull-over or jacket; Bathing suit, cover-up, hat or visor; Comfortable rubber-sole flat shoes, sneakers, water shoes or non-slip boat shoes with traction. Please note: Select activities and shore excursions may require closed-toe shoes. Footwear with wheels is prohibited on board their ships. ♦ Evening: Cruise Casual to Cruise Elegant (Sharp & Chic): As we head into the evening, the dress code takes on multiple definitions, depending on your plans, the venue or the event. Most nights, the dress code in the main dining room(s) for everyone is Cruise Casual: Men and boys: sports slacks, khakis, jeans, tailored dress shorts and collared dress, casual or polo shirts; Women and girls: summer dresses, casual skirts, pants, capris, dress shorts, jeans, blouses and tops; Kids: Take a cue from the adult dress code, but at a kid-level; Not permitted: cut-off jeans, men’s sleeveless shirts, t-shirts, gym or basketball shorts, exercise and athletic gear, baseball hats, flip-flops and bathing suit attire; For itineraries 6 days or longer, bring your legwarmers, shoulder pads and neon-colored outfits for the ‘80s Rock-N-Glow Deck Party and a white outfit for their epic White Night Party. TOP Celebrity Cruises Dress CodeCelebrity classifies their cruise attire into three main categories: Daywear, Port wear and Eveningwear.Daywear: Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. Make sure you bring active wear and sneakers if you plan to hit the gym! Poolside, bathing suits with coverups, T-shirts, tanks, hats, and sunglasses are welcomed. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps. Port wear: For warmer climates, pack swimsuits and cover-ups, walking shorts and shirts that protect from the sun, lightweight slacks, skirts or sundress, and a light sweater or jacket. Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are always encouraged. For cooler climates, bring clothing with long sleeves, sweaters, and pants that can be layered. In areas prone to snow or rain, waterproof jackets, hats, gloves, and umbrellas are recommended. Around the globe, consider appropriate shoes and gear for the excursions you have planned and the terrain you’ll encounter. For instance, you may pack water shoes if hiking a waterfall or a headscarf or conservative dress for visiting museums, mosques, temples, and churches. Eveningwear: classified as either smart casual and above or formal, depending on the night of the cruise. The cruise line will provide you with a daily itinerary, explaining which nights are smart casual and which nights are formal. ♦ Smart Casual: Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jean, and stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip flops are not considered Smart Casual. ♦ Evening Chic: Each itinerary features one to two “formal” nights we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jean, an elegant dress top or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos. The Daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and theater. TOP Celestyal Cruises Dress CodeDress Code in the dining rooms: As most of the Customers like to dress up for dinner it is advisable for ladies to wear a dress or long slacks and long trousers with shirt or jacket for men. Please refrain from wearing shorts.TOP Costa Cruises Dress CodeDaytime dress on a Costa Cruise is casual, such as light cotton clothing or swimwear with cover-up when indoors. Sweaters, lightweight jackets, raincoats, and hats are appropriate for Northern Europe. Tennis shoes or low-heeled walking shoes are recommended for exploring the ports of call. While most shore excursions do not have dress codes, some tours specifically prohibit shorts and sleeveless shirts and require ladies to wear knee-length skirts or slacks. Most every night is informal; guests may dress comfortably in resort attire – jackets are not required for men. There are typically one or two formal nights depending on the length of the cruise where guests may choose to dress formally - a suit for men, cocktail dress for the ladies - or casually in elegant resort wear.TOP CroisiEurope Dress CodeDuring the day, you will be more comfortable in a casual outfit. We advise you to bring clothes that are not very wrinkled, or that can easily be transported after ironing at your house, because there are no ironing facilities on board their boats. Remember to dress according to the weather, the season and the environment of your cruise: light suits and swimsuits for warm weather; sweater or jacket for cooler weather; sweatshirt, rain gear and small umbrella. It helps to check the weather shortly before departing home. Do not forget to bring comfortable walking shoes in your suitcase. They will be very useful during tourist excursions! Regarding dinners, cocktails and galas, guests tend to dress up a little more – like you would when dining in any nice restaurant. There are no strict guidelines, no requirements for suits or gowns. Finally, on any excursion, when you visit places of worship, make sure to opt for an appropriate outfit, neither too light nor too undressed, so as not to be prohibited entry.TOP Crystal Dress CodeA less formal look allows guests to feel comfortable during the day; Day Casual attire may be worn everywhere, including their restaurants, until 6pm. Swimwear on its own, wet swimwear, revealing clothing, bathrobes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps, and clothes bearing any offensive messaging are not permitted. Covered swimsuits may only be worn at Trident Grill, Tastes, and Marketplace. Evening Resort After 6 pm, casual daytime attire is not appropriate. Shorts and baseball caps are not permitted for men or women. If you choose to change your attire following the evening dinner and other festivities, please maintain a minimum style of dress in keeping with the dress code described below in Crystal Casual. Formal Evening On sailings over seven days, there will be at least one optional ship-wide formal night (depending on the length of the segment), which will require more formal cocktail chic attire. These special events will be defined in your personal pre-sailing guide. TOPCunard LineThe beautiful ships of Cunard Line offer an elegant, but relaxed, on board experience. Shorts and swimsuits may not be worn in the ships main restaurants. However, casual attire (including shorts) is welcome during the day in select public spaces, such as the Kings Court on Queen Mary 2. Swimsuits, brief shorts and exercise clothing should be reserved for poolside lounging, deck activities and the spa.On a Cunard cruise, the evening dress code for the ship’s main restaurants are effective from 6:00 pm, and will be specified in your ship’s Daily Programme. There are three main types of evening cruise attire on a Cunard cruise: ♦ Formal: Black tie or formal dark suit for gentlemen. Evening dress or other formal attire for ladies. (A range of gentleman’s formal wear is available to hire or purchase onboard ship). ♦ Semiformal: Jacket and tie for gentlemen. Cocktail dress or trouser suit for ladies. No jeans. ♦ Elegant Casual: Jacket, no tie required for gentlemen. Dress, skirt or trousers for ladies. No shorts or jeans. TOP Disney Cruise Line Dress CodeIn general, most onboard dining locations are "cruise casual,” so casual attire, such as shorts and T-shirts, is permitted, with the exception of swimwear and tank tops. Most cruises have special theme nights that provide opportunities to dress up for a one-of-a-kind family photo.Adult-exclusive restaurants aboard Disney Cruise Line ships are elegant dining experiences. Guests are requested to dress in a manner consistent with the restaurant’s atmosphere. Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Also permitted is dress-casual attire with a polished look, such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dressy tops and lifestyle shoes. For brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse, dress shorts are acceptable. Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear and sports attire are not permitted. Adults-only restaurants throughout the Disney Cruise Line fleet include: ♦ Palo ♦ Remy ♦ Palo Steakhouse ♦ Enchanté Disney's 7-night cruises typically have a semi-formal night and a formal night, during which the dress codes are as follows: ♦ Semi-Formal: for men it's a suit or jacket, while women should wear a dress or pantsuit. ♦ Formal: for men it's a tuxedo or suite, while women should wear a dress or pantsuit. TOP Emerald Cruises Dress CodeWe recommend casual and comfortable clothing. For sightseeing and walking tours, you’ll need comfortable shoes. For the winter months, you may need warmer clothing. Dinner is informal, but on certain evenings such as the Welcome and Farewell Dinners, you are welcome to dress up.TOP Explora Journeys Dress CodeExplora Journeys does not have a dress code onboard but suggest an elegant resort casual style. Please consider the following in restaurants, and indoor bars and lounges: Swim wear and bathrobes are not allowed throughout the day in any of the restaurants and indoor bars and lounges. Shorts and sleeveless t-shirts are not allowed during dinner time (6pm - late) in Anthology, Fil Rouge. Baseball caps and sportswear are not allowed during dinner time (6pm - late) in Anthology, Fil Rouge, Sakura, Marble & Co. Grill, Med Yacht Club.TOP Holland America Dress CodeOn a Holland America cruise the onboard atmosphere during the day is casual and relaxed. Be sure to bring swimsuits If you'd like to use any of their swimming pools or whirlpools. Holland America asks that you wear shoes and a cover-up over a bathing suit when walking through the interior of the ship.Holland America's evening dress code is grouped into two categories: Formal or Smart Casual. ♦ Smart Casual: Slacks and collared shirts for men and casual dresses, slacks and informal evening wear for women. T-shirts, swimsuits, tank tops and shorts are not allowed in the restaurants or public areas during the evening hours. ♦ Formal: Ladies usually wear a suit, cocktail dress or gown and gentlemen wear a jacket and tie, dark suit or tuxedo. There are approximately two formal nights per week. TOP Hurtigruten Expeditions Dress CodeThe attire worn while on board a Hurtigruten cruise ship is informal. However, some passengers choose to change for dinner, as the evening dress code is “smart/casual” rather than formal. Hurtigruten recommends a layered dress approach that enables you to adapt to changes in temperature, wind and precipitation conditions easily. For voyages during the winter months, Hurtigruten recommends that guests bring breathable rain and windproof clothing. A warm hat, gloves, scarf and thermal clothing are good items to bring, as well as thermal underwear.Sturdy shoes are highly recommended to be worn during shore excursions, and a walking stick/trekking pole may be useful. You should pack a pair of UV protective sunglasses, even during the winter as the reflections of snow and ice can be harmful to the unprotected eye. An additional list of recommended clothing and equipment is sent out on select departures. Many Hurtigruten cruise ships have a Jacuzzi on board, so take your swimsuit if you plan to enjoy it. Where necessary, shore excursions include use of appropriate clothing. TOP Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Express Dress CodeAlthough some passengers choose to change for dinner, the dress code is casual rather than formal.TOP Lindblad Expeditions Dress CodeThere is not a strict dress code on any Lindblad Expeditions cruise. They have an informal on board atmosphere, so casual clothing is recommended.TOP Margaritaville at Sea Dress CodeDinner and evening attire is casual chic, with proper attire required for select restaurants, including collared shirts, blouses, pants, dresses and skirts. Tank tops and swimsuits are not permitted in the dining areas.TOP MSC Cruises Dress CodeCasual wear is recommended for daytime attire. Shorts and T-shirts are permitted. A more polished look is recommended for evening wear when dining in the Main Dining Rooms and Specialty Restaurants and while enjoying the entertainment in the theater, bars, and lounges. Collared shirts, tailored pants or shorts, skirts, and dresses are suggested. Layers and a light jacket or sweater are suggested for cooler nights and in the ship’s air-conditioned public areas.During Gala Night evenings, dress to impress! Whether that means a tuxedo, suit and tie, evening gown or cocktail dress, or perhaps it’s your very best jeans and polo shirt, your attire should fit your own level of elegance. The only thing required is your smile. Specific restrictions may be enforced by onboard staff members including restaurant hostesses and management. At no point is swimwear allowed in any formal dining venue for any meal, including breakfast and lunch. Shorts, flip flops, and tank tops are not allowed for Evening Wear or Gala Night in the Main Dining Rooms, Specialty Restaurants, or MSC Yacht Club. T-shirts are not allowed to be worn for Gala Night. Dress code rules that are posted outside the buffet should be followed. TOP Norwegian Cruise LineNCL's Freestyle Cruising concept extends to every aspect of their cruises, including their dress codes. This is evident as they enjoy saying that there is no dress code on their cruises. However, please be aware that there is actually a resort casual dress code on their cruises.♦ Resort casual: not too dressy, not too casual. By day, almost anything goes. Even if you've just been at the pool and don't feel like changing, that's fine. Swim wear with a cover-up is fine at both the buffet and outdoor restaurant. During the evening their casual cruise attire policy is still in effect. However, for dinner at their restaurants guys should wear collared shirts and pants or nice jeans. Slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops are perfect for women. Kids 12 and under are can wear nice shorts in the restaurants. If you want to dress up when you dine out, feel free to do so. ♦ All Decked-out: Smart Casual: Dress smart casual in their more upscale specialty restaurants. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it's jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear shorts in all their restaurants. ♦ Special Events: Theme Nights and Parties: Norwegian's newest events, Norwegian's Night Out, is the perfect opportunity to get dressed up for an evening of cocktails, fine dining and great entertainment. You may also want to pack an all-white ensemble for their iconic White Hot Party. TOP Oceania Cruises Dress CodeOn an Oceania cruise it is recommended to dress resort or country club casual. During the evenings on an Oceania cruise, elegant casual resort wear is suggested. We request that jeans, shorts, t-shirts or tennis shoes not be worn at dinner.TOP Paul Gauguin Cruises Dress CodeDaytime dress code is casual. Evenings on board a Paul Gauguin cruise are elegant, yet not formal. "Country Club Casual," or resort wear, is appropriate for all evenings. Slacks and a button-down shirt are examples of proper attire for gentlemen. No ties are required at any time, although gentlemen may wish to bring one blazer to wear on the evening of the Captain’s Welcome Reception. Pantsuits or informal cocktail attire are recommended for ladies. Jeans, shorts and tee-shirts are not appropriate for evening wear on board.TOP Ponant Dress CodePonant recommends wearing elegant, casual clothes at your discretion, and for the gala evenings, a cocktail dress for ladies and a shirt and tie for gentlemen, and a white or black-and-white outfit for the Officers' evening. Shorts/Bermudas are not permitted in the evening in the gastronomic restaurants.TOP Princess Cruises Dress CodeThere are two types of evening dress codes on Princess Cruises:♦ Smart Casual: When the ship is in port, evening dress is smart casual, and passenger attire should be in keeping with what would be worn to a nice restaurant at home. ♦ Formal: Men wear tuxedos, dark suits or dinner jackets, and women wear evening gowns, cocktail dresses or elegant pant suits. TOP Quark Expeditions Dress CodePacking is the exciting bit for many of us. You will find a handy packing list towards the end of your Trip Brochure. You will have received a copy of this when you first booked. We also have two excellent videos, which you can check out here: What to Pack.TOP Regent Seven Seas Dress CodeAttire on a Regent Seven Seas cruise ranges from Casual to Formal Optional. Casual wear is appropriate for daytime onboard or ashore, and consists of resort-style outfits. Casual wear, including shorts and jeans, is not appropriate after 6:00 pm, with the exception of the final evening of the cruise. On the night prior to disembarkation, guests may need to pack their luggage early due to morning flights the next day. With this in mind on the last night of every voyage we will relax the dress code for dinner to Casual.The recommended onboard dress in the evenings is Elegant Casual. Dinner dress includes skirt, or slacks with blouse or sweater, pant suit or dress for ladies; slacks and collared shirt for gentlemen. Sport jackets are optional. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts or tennis shoes are not to be worn at dinner. Ties are not required. On sailings of 16-nights or more, Formal and Semi-Formal attire is optional on two evenings. On the two Formal Optional evenings, guests are welcome to dress as per the Elegant Casual dress code or opt for a more formal choice of clothing including gowns and cocktail dresses for ladies; tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits with tie for gentlemen. TOP Riviera River Cruises Dress CodeThere is no formal dress code on board any Riviera ships - we want you to feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your cruise. Smart/casual attire is acceptable for all meal times and no dinner jackets and ties are required. The Captain’s Dinner offers the opportunity, should you wish, for more special attire.TOP Royal Caribbean Dress CodeThere are three types of evening dress codes onboard Royal Caribbean's ships:♦ Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sun dresses or pants for women ♦ Smart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women ♦ Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women Note: Royal Caribbean ships that have ice skating requires that all skaters wear long pants and socks for their own comfort and safety. Capris and long shorts are permitted. TOP Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours Dress CodeThere are no specific pieces of clothing Scenic Luxury insist you pack. Scenic Luxury recommends comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing, as well as any garments, such as hats, gloves and water-resistant jackets, which will help you to stay comfortable whatever the weather. The dress code across all Scenic cruise and tour itineraries is casual and comfortable. Dinner attire is smart casual - open-neck shirts, trousers and dresses; you may if you wish wear a jacket or blazer with a tie but it is not requiredTOP Seabourn Cruise Line Dress CodeAttire During the Day on a Seabourn Cruise: In the evening (after 6pm) there are two different dress codes (depending on the night of the cruise): Elegant Casual

The itinerary in the preliminary document booklet will inform you of the number of Formal evenings to expect during your voyage. As a rule of thumb, Formal evenings are scheduled as follows:

Attire Ashore: SeaDream Yacht Club Dress CodeAs they strive to provide a luxurious, yet casual, yachting experience, there is a resort casual dress code on all SeaDream cruises. Among examples of such cruise attire are comfortable footwear for shore-side visits and casually elegant resort wear for your evenings on board (such as open-collar shirts and slacks for men, and sun dresses for women).TOP Silversea Cruises Dress CodeOn a Silversea cruise, the cruise attire ranges from casual to formal.♦ Casual resort wear is appropriate for daytime aboard ship or ashore, and consists of standard sports outfits as worn at resorts. Shoes should be flat or low-heeled for deck activities. Evening attire falls into three categories: casual, informal and formal. ♦ Casual: open neck shirts, slacks and sports outfits are appropriate. ♦ Informal: ladies usually wear dresses or trouser suits; gentlemen wear jackets (tie optional). ♦ Formal: For ladies this is an evening gown or cocktail dress; gentlemen wear tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits. On formal nights, guests dining in La Terrazza may wear casually elegant attire (dresses or trouser suits for ladies; jacket, tie optional for gentlemen). Sailings of eight days or less typically feature two formal nights, while longer voyages usually have three or four formal nights. Details will be provided in the Port and Shore Excursion booklet in your final cruise documents. TOP Star Clippers Dress CodeElegant casual is the type of cruise attire typically worn during dinner on a Star Clippers cruise. There is a no-tie dress code in the elegant dining rooms of the magnificent ships of Star Clippers. However, shorts and t-shirts are not permitted in the dining room during dinner.TOP Swan Hellenic Dress CodeSwan Hellenic expedition cruises are mainly concerned with what happens outside the ship, so dress codes are very relaxed, and there are no formalities at mealtimes.At breakfast and lunch, you’ll wear the clothes you'll be wearing outside (minus the outer gear). Once you’ve changed out of your expedition gear in the evening, you’ll probably want to put on something casual and comfortable. It’s always worth having an extra layer if you want to rush out on deck if something interesting has been spotted. During the day around the ship, you’ll want casual trousers, jeans or smart sportswear, long-sleeve tops, thin jumpers, and a body warmer and/or other layers. It will be warm and comfortable inside. Evening is casual, too – perhaps pack a couple of casual shirts and skirts/dresses. Keep footwear to a minimum. On board, a pair of lightweight trainers or similar (useful when trying on gear for size) will suffice, while slippers can be worn in your cabin. You will be provided with Swan Hellenic Expeditions parkas and rubber muck boots for shore excursions in Antarctica and the High Arctic. TOP Tauck Cruises Dress CodeApproximately 60 days before departure, and after receipt of final payment, your travel documents will be sent electronically, which will include a recommended packing list.TOP The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection Dress CodeThe dress code on board the yacht reflects the luxury lifestyle of The Ritz-Carlton and casual freedom of a yachting vacation. During the day for breakfast and lunch, the dress code is Yacht Casual, wherein shirts, shoes, and bathing suit cover-ups are required when not at the pool. During the evening, for dinner, bathing suits and sleeveless t-shirts are not permitted, and shirts and shoes are required throughout the yacht. When dining in The Evrima Room, Talaat Nam and S.E.A. the dress code is Yacht Sophisticated — meaning collared shirts are not required, but highly recommended. Ball caps, hats, shorts, and flip-flops are not permitted during dinner service. There are no formal nights on board.TOP Uniworld River Cruises Dress CodeSmart casual clothing is the appropriate cruise attire during the day on a Uniworld river cruise. During the evening, at dinner, men may wear sport coats and women may wear cocktail dresses or a pantsuit.TOP Viking Expeditions Dress CodeDuring the day, dress is casual—slacks or jeans and comfortable shoes/boots that are appropriate for excursions/landing or enjoying the ship. Swimsuits, swim shorts, cover-ups and exercise attire should be reserved for the Fitness Center and pool areas. There are no “formal nights” in the evening; evening dress is “elegant casual” for all dining venues, performances and special events. On these occasions, required attire for ladies includes a dress, skirt or slacks with a sweater or blouse; for gentlemen, trousers and a collared shirt. A tie and jacket are optional; jeans are not permitted.
