The first of Holland America Line's two upcoming Pinnacle Class ships, ms Koningsdam launched in April 2016. Carrying on the tradition of the "dam" suffix, the ship's name pays homage to both Holland America Line's rich heritage of signature service and nautical tradition, while also signifying the bold path Holland America is steering for the future. Koning means "king" in Dutch, and ms Koningsdam is the largest, most contemporary vessel to join the fleet, soon to be followed by her sister ship, ms Nieuw Statendam. Following her Premier Sailings, ms Koningsdam returned to her summer homeport of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and features roundtrip itineraries to Norway, the Baltic and Iceland.

For the design of ms Koningsdam, Holland America reached out to one of the world's per-eminent hospitality designers, Adam D. Tihany, and to distinguished designer and architect Bjorn Storbraaten. The vision of their partnership is an evolved design of classic elegance and fresh perspective. Inspired by the "architecture of music", ms Koningsdam's interior highlights fluid curves, graceful lines and light-filled spaces.

Constructed at Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy, the Pinnacle class ship's increased size brought the introduction of new public spaces, venues, and innovative features, which Holland America debuted onboard their newest majestic liner. Also included onboard the ship are familiar spaces and amenities currently featured across the Holland America fleet, perfectly blending the cruise-line's brand of timeless tradition and contemporary luxury.

An Updated Take on Traditional Design
Constructed with new interior features in mind, none of ms Koningsdam's public spaces highlight this more so than the updated central atrium. Located in the heart of the ship and spanning across three levels, this space echoes the instrumental influences with airy, stainless steel sculptures. Its key focus is motivating inspiration behind ms Kongindam's new design: visual interaction. Guests will find the visuals changing before their eyes as they move through the atrium, capped by the ceiling which functions as a backdrop for subtle, high-definition projects: everything from wispy clouds or soothing reflections of water and light during the day, to constellations of the night sky.

Entertainment & Activities
Onboard ms Koningsdam, there is a wide selection of activities to sample during your cruise. Feature programs include the Culinary Arts Center, presented by Food & Wine® magazine, where guests can have a hands-on culinary experience with top chefs; the Digital Workshop, powered by Windows and conducted by Microsoft-trained "Techsperts" offering 50-minute sessions throughout each cruise in photo editing, PC organization, security, and more; and The Signature Shops, where guests can enjoy duty-free shopping, and including the one-of-a-kind wares of Merabella, a luxury jewelery boutique. The renovated design of the Queen's Lounge now spans two floors, and is newly equipped to offer a variety of entertainments including the popular B.B.
